“Ugh, this new diet my husband I have been trying is the worst,” my neighbor Amy told me as we browsed the aisles of our local Whole Foods.
She picked up a box of gluten-free, organic, fruit-sweetened brownie mix and gave the ingredients list a quizzical eye. “Can’t eat that,” she said, wistfully.
As we made our way to the frozen foods, she grabbed a container of sorbet and looked at is as though it were a dearly departed relative. “Goodbye, old friend,” she said. “I’ll miss you the most.”
While Amy had lost a few pounds on her new plan, she’d also fallen prey to a triple-D situation: a depressing dessert-free drought. Her diet plan said no sugar, no fruit, and no fun, and she was following it to a T — and the only thing she was gaining from it was a feeling of desperation and loss every time she glanced at a box of cookies or pack of ice pops.
“You know, you don’t have to give up dessert to lose weight,” I mentioned. “On Zero Belly, you can keep eating your favorite sweet treats, from cupcakes to pie, while improving your health, shedding belly fat, and losing weight all over.”
After showing Amy which sweet snacks to avoid, like the 25 Sneaky Sources of High Fructose Corn Syrup, I introduced her to the 40 Decadent Desserts That Melt Fat.
Needless to say, she was pretty sweet on them.
